USTA PHOENIX

 The USTA Phoenix will annually grant to a junior an amount of $400 to defer costs of travel to the USTA National Clay Court Championships and/or USTA National Hard Court Championships, held in July and August.

Players eligible for this award must be endorsed by the Southwest Section and meet the criteria for acceptance into either National Championship.

Letters will be sent to eligible players ranked in the top 5 of each age division in USTA Phoenix after the last May junior standings list is published, with specific instructions on how to apply.

The Junior Scholarship Committee will select one recipient and three alternates in succession. If the junior selected does not attend either of these national events or is unable to accept the award for any reason, the award will pass to the next alternate chosen by the committee. Alternates are required to volunteer 2 hours for every $50 received within 1 year. Family member and/or friends volunteer hours are also accepted and encouraged.

The selections will be made based on the following criteria:

1. Financial Need

2. Sportsmanship

3. Participation in USTA Phoenix tournaments and activities

4. Achievements in tennis

5. Desire to represent USTA Phoenix at Nationals

6. Two letters of recommendation
